Welcome! To help you enjoy a warm and comfortable stay, please follow these simple instructions for using the wood fire safely and effectively.
Getting Started
Please switch off the reverse cycle air conditioner, as it may draw smoke into the unit and cause the apartment to fill with smoke.
Ensure the fire is cool before starting.
Use only the dry wood and kindling provided.
Open the flue to allow smoke to escape.
How to Light the Fire
Place some crumpled paper or a firelighter in the center of the firebox.
Stack a few small sticks or kindling on top.
Add one or two small logs above the kindling — don't overcrowd.
Light the paper or firelighter.
Leave the door slightly open for a couple of minutes to help the fire establish.
Once the fire is burning well, close the door.
Maintaining the Fire
Add logs one at a time as needed — typically every 30–60 minutes.
Do not overfill the fire.
Adjust the air vent:
More open = stronger, faster fire
More closed = slower, longer-lasting burn
Never leave the fire unattended when the door is open.
Help Keep the Warmth Downstairs
Turn the ceiling fans on this will gently push warm air down from the ceiling, keeping the downstairs area warmer.
Fire Safety Tips
Only burn the provided dry wood — no cardboard, or wet wood.
Keep furniture, clothes, and personal items at least one metre away.
Ash remains hot for many hours — do not attempt to clean it out.
For smoke, open a window or door slightly to improve ventilation.
